My Music History
Here goes... I started playing drums at age six, guitar/bass at age 11 and piano at 14. I could not imagine life without music. I am currently learning strings as well. I hope to build that into my music. The works that I post on this site are demos as my recording gear isn't much and I'm not that great of a recording engineer.
I've played in Jazz Bands, Orchestra's, Percussion Ensembles, Marching Bands, and Rock Bands to name a few. I was in a band called Happenstance and later in a band called Floating upon Blue. Both projects were a blast and a great learning experience. Through out my life (starting around 13 or so), I was pretty excited about doing a solo project.
My desired line of work was to do something similar to what Matthew Sweet did. I was inspired by his video because it showed him in a recording studio recording all of the tracks by him. That was a big deal to me because I too played a lot of different instruments and I didn't know what to do because I was only one person. After seeing that video (about 15 years ago), I decided that someday I was going to have a house with a basement where I could "setup shop" and make a living doing what I loved most.
That dream is a good one, but complicated. Currently I work in computers and that pays bills and allows for me to be able to record. As a kid I did not factor in the idea that one doesn't really just 'make it' in music overnight. Besides, it is nice knowing when your next paycheck is coming and where it is coming from....
The problem that I've had is now that I am in my later 20s, I don't know what to do with all of the years I've spent with my music. I believe that I've worked pretty hard to do something with it, but I don't know what. Then it hit me... What is the reason why anyone does anything in the arts? Expression... I choose to express myself though my music and I feel by doing so, I gain an inner peace that is worth more that any dollar could be. So with that, I've been playing in bands, and also to the wall for many years.
The point in this site isn't to break it big or anything like that; I just want to be able to share some of the music that I create from time to time. Perhaps someday I will get into a real studio and do something pretty neat. Until then, please enjoy what I put up and feel free to say hello. Thanks!
